Study  Of  Timor Forest Bee Patterns Migration (Apis dorsata) In Nature Preserve Gunung Mutis Area KPH Timor Tengah Selatan, Timur Nusa Tenggara Province  (Case study)

Abstract

Forest honey bee colonies can migrate seasonally or permanently. Forest honey bee colonies utilize forest areas to develop nests at certain times. This information is important in determining the season and timing of honey harvest for forest honey harvesters. This study aims to obtain migration information about the migration activities of forest honeybees on Timor Island, development of nests and territorial behavior of forest honeybee colonies in the Nature Reserve (BBKSDA NTT) and Gunung Mutis Protection Forest KPH South Central Timor. The results of this study are to support the interests of forest management as a habitat for forest bees on the island of Timor. The research was conducted in 2019, in the nature reserve and protected forest area of Mount Mutis on the island of West Timor (South Central Timor Regency). The research was conducted at 3 (three) observation points. Two observation points are located in the Gunung Mutis Nature Reserve (BBKSDA NTT) namely Fatumnasi, Nenas, Kuannoel and Nuapin Villages.) and Outside the Nature Reserve (Protection Area - KPH TTS) in Tutem, Tune and Bonleu Villages. The method used is Observation of determined forest bee colony migration, development of hives and behavior of forest honey bees, observations were made at points that have been determined purposively. The data collected were analyzed descriptively. Observations showed that the migration activity was 3 times, forest bee colonies came in the second week of February in Nenas, the third week of February in fatumnasi, and the second week of March in Kuannoel and Nuapin. Forest bee colonies left the nest sites from April to May at the three observation sites. Subsequent migrations in July were observed in Tutem villages, October in Tune and November - December in Bonleu, Nuapin and Kuannoel. The difference in the time of bee migration at the 3 observation locations can be influenced by various causes, namely the availability of feed, drastic changes in weather, disturbances in environmental conditions causing disturbances to the tranquility and comfort of honey bees. The nest is formed since the arrival of the bee colony and builds a young white nest with small rounds, 2 weeks later it becomes an adult nest with large flat brown rounds and is ready to be harvested. The existence of nests and the harvest season of forest honey were observed following the flowering period of the forage vegetation at each location. Bee migration activity at three points, observed at 07.12 - 16.45, but the most frequent migration activity is found at 09.00 - 10.00. Migration can occur due to the availability of feed, unsupportive environmental conditions or because of disturbances from human activitiesKey words : timor island forest honey bee, migration, CA.
