PREPAREDNESS OF DISASTER PREPAREDNESS SCHOOL IN DEALING WITH THE ERUPTION OF MERAPI (Study of SMPN 1 Cangkringan Sleman Yogyakarta)
Abstract
Disaster Preparedness School (DPS) is a school that consciously and planned to create a learning atmosphere and learning process so that students actively develop competencies in anticipating disasters precisely and efficiently. One of the schools targeted by the Sleman Regency BPBD to become SSB is SMPN 1 Cangkringan. SSB in Yogyakarta is a disaster risk reduction strategy for the main threat of the eruption of Mount Merapi. This study examines the preparedness of SMPN 1 Cangkringan in facing the threat of the Merapi eruption in terms of its implementation and the factors that influence it. This research on SMPN 1 Cangkringan has never been carried out before and is expected to contribute to BNPB in creating contingency plans for dealing with disasters and incorporating SSB training into the BNPB Pusdiklat curriculum. This research uses qualitative methods, by conducting interviews, field observations, and collecting secondary data. The results showed that the preparedness level of SMPN 1 Cangkringan was still at a moderate level. Structurally, indicators of preparedness were achieved, namely in terms of location, spatial planning, and support for infrastructure. Non-structurally, there are still some things that have not been achieved, such as the absence of integration with the curriculum, the unavailability of disaster risk assessment documents and the absence of an action plan that is regularly reviewed (school contingency plan). Monitoring and evaluation are important values to see the sustainability of the SSB.
